CPI Ticks

Inflation measures seem complex, but are very structured. With most of the major prices available on various websites, specialized tools can be set up to retrieve them and use price appreciation to adjust the index and establish an intra-month or intra-day observation.

Norwegian Consumer Price Index

  • Purpose and scope: Measures price change for household final monetary consumption in Norway. Follows COICOP and is published monthly by SSB.
  • Index formula: Chain-linked Laspeyres-type index; weights updated annually.
  • Weights: Primarily based on National Accounts HFCE (often t−2), adjusted/updated; detailed splits supported by surveys/scanner/other sources.
  • Price collection: In-store, scanner data, administrative data, and web data; collected during a monthly window.
  • Housing treatment: Includes rents and imputed rentals; energy included in headline CPI; CPI-ATE also published.
  • Quality/seasonality: Quality adjustment where relevant; seasonal methods for seasonal products; sales/discounts reflected.
